There is a poker group called Poker Players Alliance which has been trying to change the poker environment in the United States especially in the Internet arena. Since the UIGEA has been passed it has literally waste away the online poker choices of the US people by classifying poker like any other variety of gambling which is not true because playing poker is more like a skill test than a luck one.
But at present it seems like that the change people look forward since 2006 has been started even though not in the same way as they have expected.
A lot of people thought that the House of Representatives would be the one to charge in overthrowing the UIGEA and then will try to authorize legal laws, regulations and taxations on the online poker industry along.
The problem is that the bill passed by Barney Franklin was stopped. Even though it already had 50 cosponsors, it is clear that the bill will take time in order to be passed fully at the house.
Luckily at the same time, New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez brings out the Internet Poker and Games of Skill Regulation, Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act which was accepted gladly by the PPA.
This act sets up a guideline for legalizing and regulating the game of online poker and other games of the same skill. Unlike the UIGEA which directly bans online gambling when it was passed in 2006.
The bill does a lot of reasonable things that should surely help explain a huge part of this debate going ahead. For instance, the bill alleges the government with specifying a list of unregistered online gambling operations for enforcement and it also mandates the use of technology to prevent underage gambling online.
It will also help in augmenting more funding for gambling counseling purposes and will also authorize the gathering of taxes from online poker operations. It will also help clarify the issue of the Wire Act in line to stop the illegitimate fund seizures from occurring once again.
